I had a good day today, and I am easing back into writing regularly again. I should hit my quota today. If I don't, I will only miss it by 100 words. I started a new story, made it about 1000 words in, and discovered a problem with my opening that took me a little longer than usual to fix because I am practicing openings right now. If it hadn't been for that, I would have definitely exceeded my quota tonight.

For reading, I spent part of the day studying the openings of mega best sellers.

For data analysis, no work in this area, but as I keep hinting, you're going to be hearing a lot about data very soon…

For marketing, I raised the price of Shadow Deal (the Good Necromancer Book 1). I had it on sale for the spooky season. I saw a nice little sales wbump.

I also booked two speaking engagements today, so those will bear fruit in the near future.

For production, I am writing a fantasy story. We will see how it goes, but if I'm lucky, I will be able to finish it tomorrow.

I also added my blog posts from October to my word count, giving me a slight bump to my surplus for the year. I need to write 84,000 words per month to reach one million words per year, and I fell short of that goal in October, but not by much. However, I wrote 101,000 words in September, so I am still well ahead of schedule. As long as I have a good November, I will still be on track to exceeding my goal early.

And speaking of November, happy NaNoWriMo to all my friends out there participating in the challenge. Remember to take care of yourself, write fast, don't write sloppy, and don't beat yourself up too much if you don't win the challenge.

This is just a challenge. Nothing more. No one is going to show up at your doorstep with a gun because you don't write 50,000 words in November.

That being said, don't write sloppy. In my opinion, it's better to fail the challenge with the 30,000 clean (and good) words than it is to “win” with 50,000 crappy words that will take you twice as long to edit. Take it from personal experience.

Anyway, good luck to all my friends out there and have a good night.
