Got my second COVID-19 shot today. I’m feeling pretty good so far #knockonwood. Just a sore arm. Who knows what tomorrow will bring, and guess what else is tomorrow? May’s Power Hour!!!

Be sure to join if you can—this will be the first show with my new live-streaming setup. I did a test stream tonight and everything looked great. 4 lucky people got to see it before I deleted it. LOL

Anyway, let’s talk about the challenge:

Beat the Sun Up Challenge

Goal: For five days, as a community, we’ll wake up at 5:30AM (or the time that works best with your schedule) to work on your writing. Discover if waking up early is for you and how it will affect your writing for one week.

Start Date: Monday, 5/10/21

Start Time: 6AM CENTRAL Time (Live), On-demand for anyone not in the Central time zone). I’ll pull the videos down the weekend after the challenge.

Timezone notes: I simply can’t calibrate everyone being awake at the same time, so I’m going to stream at 6AM. Watch it whenever you wake up and we’ll go on the honor system. Because of this, I won’t be doing any prizes.

Night Owls: We’ll start your challenge on Monday, May 17 and we’ll do a “night owl” version. I predict this one will be more popular. LOL

Prize: No prize due to the timezone thing since that wouldn’t be fair.

The Rules:

  • Wake up whatever time works best for you, but make it earlier than you normally wake up. My experience is that magical things happen between 5AM-7AM though. This is because you’re far less likely to be interrupted.
  • My only goal is to get you to wake up. What you do after is up to you.
  • I will livestream at 6AM Central (sharp) each morning, with a quick check-in to see what everyone is working on and how you’re progressing on your project.
  • We’ll set goals for the morning (and day)
  • I’ll offer a short writing craft & productivity tip to help you get started with your day.
  • Livestream will only be about 15 minutes so you can maximize your morning.
  • At the end of the week, I want you to compare your productivity and output of the challenge week to your prior writing week.
  • This is purely a challenge in every sense of the word.
  • Remember to get seven or eight of sleep if you can. Not worth doing the challenge if you’ll be sleep-deprived at work.

Let me know if I missed anything, as I’m sure I left something out. But come 5/10/21, the challenge begins, if you dare!!!!

(I’m already going to be awake whether we do a challenge or not, so….)
