1000 words today. Another day with family today. I suffered an injury though…I was putting my daughter in her car seat and buckling the seatbelt when my thumb bent back on itself. Not sure how it did it but man it was painful. Now I’m in a brace and definitely dictating instead of typing.

Just goes to show you that anything can happen at any time. You must take care of yourself (and trust me, I am), but you also have to keep the train running of things aren’t critical in nature, if you can.

I simply switched to dictation as my primary writing method for my primary method of writing for a few days while my thumb heals. Will I type still? Sure, but I’m limiting that time as much as possible.

My manuscript is up to 7,000 words today. This has been my “worst” Beast Mode day so far, but I’m still inching along.

I went to see a fireworks show and we had a bunch of downtime, so I sat on a nice grassy area in a lawn chair, whipped out my phone, and with one hand, typed about 300 words.

I dictated another 500 words, and did another 200 or so by hand when I got home.

Here’s my question to YOU: if you suffered an injury to your dominant hand, how would you keep writing? Would you simply stop if it was too painful, or would you invest in another technique that helps you stay minimally productive? This is why I keep, keep, keep telling people to write based on where you are and what you’re doing vs. picking one method and doing that only. Flexibility is everything.

Tomorrow I will likely not have a gigantic writing day because family is still in town. But the fact that I’ve been able to keep a streak and make pretty good progress toward my book is still good stuff. Every day I write, I’m contributing to the law of averages.

In other news, I got my next book off to the cover designer. It’ll publish the middle of July.

So I definitely made progress today.

For my friends in the US, have a safe and happy fourth.
