Another swampy day today. I expected this and plan to have a better second half of the week.
For reading, marketing, and production – all zero progress today, except for working on some slides for my presentation on Sunday. I did get Indie Author Confidential Vol. 10 back from my editor today, which means I can proceed with cover design, probably tomorrow.
For data analysis, I ran the numbers on Indie Author Confidential Vol. 10. The book is 26,000 words and I received 82 edits. 15 of those were critical (18%).
As I discussed a few nights ago, I divide the word count by the total number of edits received to get an “edit per” number. This is the critical metric you want to look for when reviewing your editing results. (I can count the number of edits with a Word macro).
For this book, I received 1 edit per 248 words and 1 critical edit per 897 words. That’s roughly 1 edit per printed page and 1 edit per 3.5 pages, respectively.
Those are outstanding numbers. We’ll see how my next book does now that I have my new dictation commands that will result in cleaner dictation sessions.
Finally, I was on another podcast this week! I stopped by The Indy Author Podcast with Matty Dalrymple to talk about getting the most out of in-person speaking engagements. I met Matty in-person at Writer’s Digest last month and we had a great time.

Have a good night.
