Fairly normal day today.

For reading, I read IDW’s TMNT, Vol. 8.

For data analysis, I updated my word tracker spreadsheet with some additional data points. I’m tracking whether I am at “Pulp Speed”. If you’ve never heard of this, read Dean Wesley Smith’s blog post on the topic. It’s one of his very best and it will inspire you: https://www.authorlevelup.com/pulpspeed.

Anyway, if you want to hit “Pulp Speed”, you have to write at least 1 MILLION words per year, minimum. Many of the old pulp writers did more than that. That requires insanely high word count days without missing.

Hence why I increased my daily word quota to 2750 words. That will net me 1 million words in one year. But boy, that’s not easy. The math gets particularly brutal if you start missing days. That’s why I’m focused on building a surplus right now so I can rely on that when I have to miss days. Anyway, updated numbers are at the bottom of this post.

For marketing, I made a minor update to one of my Books2Read links to add a new retailer. Other than that, nothing much right now.

For production, I did 3500 words today. I ended up doing 1500 words last night, so I had a small deficit. But today I should make up for it—I still have one dictation session left while I do dishes. That should get me at least 1000 words, which will put me ahead of where I need to be.

I have a surplus of about 2,000 words right now, so I’ll try to increase that to at least 3,000 words by end of the week. That means I can afford to miss 1 day before I start falling behind. Like I said, the math on this is absolutely brutal.

Anyhoo, I’m making good progress in my current book.

Have a good night.
