Great day today.
For reading, I’m continuing IDW’s TMNT Vol 8.
For data analysis, I discovered MidJourney, a Discord that allows you to type in a description and get an AI-generated image, much like DALL-e. You guys know I raved about DALL-e a few months ago. I’m not sure if MidJourney IS DALL-e or not, but holy cow, this is very, very interesting. See images at the bottom of the post.
The first 3 are mine, and the last two were so amazing I had to share them.
#1: Pimp in a mink coat
#2: 80s style urban fantasy book cover with dragons
#3: Cyberpunk dragon
#4: (Not mine) Cyberpunk Super Mario —OMG this is insane
#5: (Not mine) African hut built in California in the 17th century, concept drawing
It seems like other people are getting way better results than me, but hey, this was fun to play with. From it, I can make some observations/predictions:
* This is the future of stock photography, period. In five years or so, this is how people will generate stock photos. The quality will be much much better in a few years, though it’s pretty good now.
* Copyright is going to be a nightmare. I’m sharing these images on my YouTube channel, but I wouldn’t dare put them on a book cover.
* You’ll have be very, very careful that your cover designer does not use AI-generated images. This is why getting links to their source material will be increasingly important in the future. These AIs are most likely scraping copyrighted material.
* Imagine in the future being able to type “Black dragon with emerald eyes roaring in a swamp” and you get an exclusive, royalty-free image you can use on your book cover. This leads me to believe that stock photo sites like Shutterstock will capitalize on this technology. Because of all the copyright issues, people will want a safe, royalty-free solution.
For marketing, no work today.
For production, I did 3100 so far today and I’m sitting on a surplus for the day, which is a beautiful thing. I actually did a few more words last night too so I’m in a fantastic position for the week.
Anyway, enjoy those images.
