Solid day today, and I got my surplus back over 10,000 words. I’m catching up quite nicely.
For reading, I continued IDW’s TMNT Vol. 10.
For data analysis, I identified an enhancement I can make to my book portfolio. Many of you are probably aware that Vellum now supports Grammarly.
Something I didn’t do early in my career was use Grammarly. It probably could have helped me catch a lot of true typos like dropped articles. I only accept true typos from Grammarly anyway.
Now that Vellum integrates with Grammarly, I can run the checker right in the formatting app now, find additional typos in my books, fix them, update the version, regenerate a new slate of files, and reupload to retailers. I generally only update my titles when there are at least three things that have changed.
As I said, this is a portfolio enhancement. Now that I have my master publishing file set and all my books extremely organized, I can do this extremely quickly. I’m planning on doing it either this quarter or next.
For marketing, I landed another speaking engagement for November so I got that squared away.
I also came up with another short story idea—this one science fiction. Funny how when you start writing something that the ideas suddenly start coming to you.
For production, I started The Indie Author Bestiary today. I’m already at 3500 quota and it’s only 6PM, so that bodes pretty well for the night.
The book is off to a good start, and definitely dictation-friendly. Because of the POV, I thought it wouldn’t be, but it’s not bad at all. This is going to be a fun one.
I netted 900 words in early morning session before work, 500 while walking my dog around lunchtime (dictation), 900 on a car ride (dictation), and another 2100 words while walking my dog and then coming home and doing dishes (dictation). Pretty solid.
Also, check out my interview on the Ken and G podcast. We talk about writing in general, how to become a writer and stay motivated, and many other things. It was a great conversation. Listen here: https://kenandgpodcast.libsyn.com/episode-67-writing-your-first-novel
