The more I think about this era of writing, the more I think it will ultimately be defined by historians in terms of opposites:

#1: Unlimited creative freedom / shackles of writing to market

#2: Best time in history to be a writer / harder than ever to be successful

#3: More ways to make money than ever / little streams of income from everywhere

#4: Unbounded optimism about the future (mostly from experienced writers / paranoia & anxiety and FOMO (mostly by newbies)

#5: Giving content away to build an empire / religious-like subservience to entrepreneurship (kinda odd)

Some people in the future are going to challenge us about this age, call us out on the fact that we lived so comfortably between opposites. Sometimes it doesn’t make any sense, but honestly it’s the only way to survive right now.
