173 words today. I’m back on the horse, but the recovery was a bit slower than I expected.
I got my special project turned in this afternoon and now it’s just a waiting game to hear back. In the meantime, it means it’s time for words, baby!!! I’ll be able to share news on the project if it is approved, sometime in the next month or two.
I also recorded the next week of Writing Tip of the Day.
Next, it was time to work on the novel.
First things first, I needed to review what I had written previously to get back into the swing of the story because I LEGITIMATELY didn’t remember what I wrote. Honestly, I didn’t even remember the first chapter… That’s the downside of writing so many stories I suppose. They all start blending together, even when you’re writing them.
I spent a fair amount of the afternoon finishing the loop I talked about last week. I smoothed out some of the rough patches from my last dictation sessions and ended the night ready to start charging forward tomorrow. I didn’t get a dictation session in, but I laid the groundwork for it. Unless something goes off the rails tomorrow in a big way, I should have a normal writing day.
ONLY ONE PROBLEM
It turns out that I left off my story in a rough spot. I didn’t think I would encounter a rough spot for a few more days, but it’s definitely one. Leaving in the middle of it didn’t help.
Stopping your novel and restarting is fun…stopping your novel and restarting in the middle of a rough patch…delightful…
The big issue right now is where exactly I’m going to pick up tomorrow. I have no idea what the scene will be. I’m hoping that a good night’s rest will help. I’m not worried about it.
I may be closer to the end than I think, though. The novel may be closer to 40-45K, but it’s hard to say. However, somewhere around 35-40K is when I can start to “see” the ending. When that happens, all hell breaks loose as I race toward the end. That may happen as soon as tomorrow.
If I write 3500 words every day, I’ll definitely finish this week. (I said that last week, but I don’t have a choice this time—my alpha readers are waiting.)
I can finally start taking advantage of my new setup. I can dictate without being on the bike now, which means that I can achieve some insane word count days. It may take me a couple days to work up to higher numbers though.
Anyhoo, don’t worry too much when you can’t write for a while. I officially ended my 7-day goose egg streak, and I’ll just pretend it didn’t exist.
Over the course of the next year, the fact that I didn’t write for one week won’t matter. Remember the law of averages. As long as you’re diligent about sitting in the chair as much as you can, it’ll work out in your favor. Hell, I don’t even remember how many books I published last year but it was a lot…and I didn’t write every day.
ONE MORE THING
I’m participating in a FREE event to the public called Indie Author Prosperity. It’s about building your author brand, boosting your creativity, and having an amazing 2021. It’s hosted by Rahel Wallace, and I’m a featured speaker along with other great writers.
