2577 words today. 1500 or so came from the power hour (watch the replay here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqZnMuwIkz8)
The story is taking its time, but the word count today was good. Frankly, it’s in my sweet spot of 2000-3000 words per day, which is my normal speed. I’ll take it.
Tomorrow is (technically) the last day of the challenge so we’ll see where I end up. My goal is to keep chipping away at this story every day and I should have it done by the time class starts. If it’s not done, it’ll be very, very close.
At some point I will redo this challenge. I want a rematch!!!
But that did get me thinking about what I need to change/restructure in my life to hit a challenge like this in the future. I thought I was ready, but I clearly wasn’t. I will declare a rematch some point later this year.
In the meantime, I persevere. Depending on how long the novel is, I’m somewhere between and 31% and 37%. That means I’m right in the heart of the first third, which explains why I had a slowdown in the last couple days.
The crazy thing is, the slowdown wasn’t related to the story. It was external factors. But it’s very, very weird how the universe always stops me right around the 1/3 mark of a novel. Every time. We’ll see how things go tomorrow, but I shouldn’t be here very long. If I write 2500 words tomorrow, that will put me north of 20K. Things usually resolve around 22K-25K.
I’ll leave you with a great video on time management that I discovered from businessman and motivational speaker David Meltzer. The video is about 14 minutes long, but you’ll get everything you need after the 11-minute mark or so. This guy is ruthless with his time, and you can learn from how he thinks about it. I certainly did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEJSxDAt45M&t=62s
