2751 words. Ouch…what a way to start the challenge…

I woke up on time, but my Blue Yeti decided to stop working. I think my cable died. So I had to troubleshoot that, which shot my morning dictation session. I had some other tech issues that randomly popped up…

I eked out about 500 words before breakfast, which I was happy with. But the day got busy and next thing I knew, it was 5PM. No lunch hour writing, which didn’t help.

Then my OTHER microphone decided it didn’t want to work so I had to reboot several times and troubleshoot the problem.

So yeah…I ended the day with 2751 words, which honestly, on a non-challenge day, would have been a pretty good day. If I was competing in NaNoWriMo, I would have crushed it today, so it’s all about perspective.

Anyhoo, I wrote two chapters today, which is something.

Chapter 1 took me 2 sessions.

Chapter 2 took me 1 session.

I almost started Chapter 3, but given the lesson I learned from my editing analytics project, I decided not to—the higher the number of sessions per chapter, the more edits there are. I’d like to start Chapter 3 fresh in the morning so I can take a good run at it, and maybe finish a few chapters before breakfast. It’ll be better for me in the long run.

I looped through Chapter 1 and tried a new method to help me get through my looping more efficiently:

  • Step 1: Read the loop for story
  • Step 2: Read the loop for spelling/grammar, and five senses
  • Step 3: Read one more time for quality’s sake

Once done, I ran each chapter through my editing engine to clean things up further before moving on.

KEEPING IT IN PERSPECTIVE

  1. This is just a challenge. The only pressure I’m putting on myself is my own, which is to say, not very much.
  2. The universe worked against me today—it happens. Bad days are often followed by good ones (and vice versa). Most days are right in the middle.
  3. 2751 is a fantastic number in its own right!
  4. The story is moving at a good pace. I still have no idea what will happen next, though.

Onward! We’ll see if I can redeem myself tomorrow.
