Today was the busiest day I’ve had since the pandemic began, which is saying something.

Had a dentist appointment at 7AM. Normally it’s very quiet there, and me and the hygienist are the only ones in the whole building. This time, I’ve never seen so many cars in my life in the parking lot. People have to wait in their cars until the hygienist comes and gets you and takes your temperature. The hygienist told me that everyone wants to get one last teeth cleaning in before COVID-19 spikes here in Iowa. Wow. This second wave thing is real.

Then I had back-to-back meetings all day from 8:30AM to about 6PM. I’m entering into a surprisingly busy season at work that came out of nowhere. I’ll probably be pulling some long hour days over the next few weeks. Sometimes work demands more than 40 hours, and it’s fine. It’s cyclical, and I enjoy my work, so that’s a plus.

This evening, I had some very interesting chats with creatives over web calls. One was an artist who published poetry and orchestrated multimedia performances that blend music, dance, poetry, storytelling, film, teleconference/video, and sound effects. She was telling me about the concept of a “film poem” which was fascinating to me.

Also had a chat with a gentleman who is making it his mission to make children more financially literate. Really cool, and really noble.

Like I said, today was strange—almost no writing, but a lot of personal interaction, which was…surprisingly welcome given all we’ve been through in the last eight months. Today felt very pre-pandemic for that reason. Got me thinking a lot about the old days…eight months ago. I don’t miss them, but it’s nice to think about them every now and again—little things like handshakes, being in a concert hall packed with people, and touching surfaces without having to worry about disinfecting your hands afterward.

Anyhoo, I kept on top of my email inbox—booked another speaking event and did some more groundwork for Amnesia Mode which kicks off Sunday.

I’m off tomorrow afternoon so look forward to getting some words in for a change.
