Wrote 1500 words today. I taught a workshop on Scrivener Basics for the good folks at REWRITE London today. Rewrite is a global non-profit aimed at helping women and women of color become better writers. What better way to become a writer than to master Scrivener so you can tell your story?
Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1H0WRgm1oR0&feature=youtu.be. It’s an hour and fifteen minutes long, and I cover just about everything you want to know about Scrivener. It was a great event.
I also finished reading a fantastic novel—a thriller by Arthur Hailey called Hotel. Absolutely amazing novel, and cemented Hailey as one of my favorite writers. I grabbed an autobiography his wife wrote about being married to a writer. I’m in for some interesting reading, to say the least. I know the book is going to be good when she wrote about being married to a person for 25 years is amazing, but to be married to a writer that long is a miracle. LOL
I learned so much from reading this Hailey book, it’s insane. I could spot his techniques very easily. He’s a good author study in that regard. He also performed some literary techniques that I’ve seen others do but couldn’t put my finger on how they did it. His style is very plain and open which makes him a great mentor. His style is similar to Ken Follett, actually, and I Follett a lot.
LESSON LEARNED & EXECUTED
Ads are burning money again today. It is what it is. I did some work yesterday to find new targets but otherwise left everything alone. We’ll see how things shake out this time next week.
I did put caps on some of my books so those caps will run out in the next week or two, which will impact my spend numbers positively when they run out. Hopefully at the end of this month I’ll have a better idea of how everything is performing. Around Christmas I may turn on some new ads for the beast mode books. That’s the ace in my sleeve. I know at least two of them will do well with ads, so even if I take a loss this month, I’ll be okay in the long term.
But even if the ads don’t ultimately pan out, I’ll still be writing new books. That’s the best advertising. But it is pretty nice to work on my backlist for a change.
