3258 words today. I have been working on Indie Author Confidential Vol. 7 for the past couple days while I devote some brainpower to preparing Rat City for publication, so I had a good word count day today.
The first fact checker got feedback to me and it was very good—he gave me some additional details to make my rat scenes especially authentic.
I also went back to Book 1 and reviewed the outline to see if there were some ways I could improve my outlining for my novels moving forward. Rat City was a gigantic novel, and while I pulled it off, I missed some minor details that I had to fix later, which is not preferable.
I came up with a new outlining method for the next novel I write into the dark. I tested it out by REWRITING the outline I did for Dead Rat Walking (Chicago Rat Shifter Book 1). It’s retains the spirit of the first outline (I didn’t change anything I wrote), but it contains a lot more “micro details” that would have helped me when I was writing Rat City. It looks much better and is easy to follow as well. It also helped me catch a few minor issues—nothing major, but hey, anything you catch before publication is a good thing.
I’ll use my new outlining method to retool the outline for Rat City tomorrow. This is very important for me because I want to start writing Cold Hard Magic (my next novel) soon, but I want to improve my outline process because Cold Hard Magic is also a complicated novel. In some respects, it’s a lot like Rat City, so I want to be prepared for that so I can have a smoother drafting process.
Anyhoo, tomorrow I’ll rework the outline for Rat City and that will conclude my time with the novel until it returns from my second fact-checker and copyeditor.
Starting Friday, I’ll retool the outline for Shadow Deal (The Good Necromancer Book 1), and then everything I’ve written so far for Cold Hard Magic. I’m on track to start Cold Hard Magic by Monday. I’ve also got to do some final touches on the writing app book. That should only take 1 or 2 days before that’s ready for my editor as well. It’s not complicated work—I just need to set time aside to do it. The novels are taking up my mental bandwidth right now.
Have a good night.
